detail studies III | f15 | arc351

As with the previous iterations of ARC351 Design III, the final project of the semester asked the students to investigate their primary design project in more detail. This semester, their project centered on the design of a new Observatory for the SIU Physics department on a site located out on the campus farmland. Each student selected a slice of their final design and figured out how the building and site would work when including structure, systems, finishes, and detail work. They also were required to select a single element of their design and build it at full scale. As a key component of the site design was ample seating to stop and watch the stars, many of the students elected to build seating elements that had designed. Below are a series of images taken of the final work on display in the school’s gallery and a small selection of the student’s final presentation boards.
