detail studies I | f13 | arc351

At the conclusion of this studio, which asked the students to design a new chapel or other small religious structure for Carbondale, IL, the students were instructed to pick a single detail from their project and build it at full scale. Some students chose to examine more traditional intersections of building planes while others sought to figure out other elements like railings and shade screens. This level of realization allowed the students to fully engage with their project, even if just for a very small piece of it. The investigations included investigations of structure, finishes, accessibility, and durability, amongst other issues. Below are images of a few examples of the final constructions.
