In the fall of 2012, the students in ARC351 were asked to generate a series of panels made of wood, fabric, and concrete. These panels acted as generative devices for exploring schematic ideas about material, scale, and context. The ideas embedded in the panels were carried from one material construct to the next, finally being extracted and used to spark the design of the primary studio project: a cemetery. Each student produced 6 panels over the course of the first 8 weeks of the semester.
