This Fall, the student in this section of ARC351 were asked to contemplate death, dying, mourning, and rememberance while designing a new cemetery for Carbondale, IL. The project site is adjacent to an existing historic cemetery in the center of town, nesteled into a buisiness district, and along the major highway running through the city. To begin the semester, the students designed a series of material panels inspired by elements taken from the site and context of the cemetry project. These ideas were then lifted from the panels and used to inspire the designs of the cemeteries themselves. Below you will find images of key work and points during the semester.
